Just to give some clarification.
If you were to have a basic criminal record check done by Disclosure Scotland (the DBS don't do basic checks), then your certificate would come back blank as basic checks only disclose unspent convictions.
If an employer does an standard or enhanced check because your role involves working in a regulated role (for example in the security industry) or with children or vulnerable adults then these roles are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and these employers are legally entitled to see the whole of your criminal record. However, after a period of 11 years, some convictions can be 'filtered' off standard or enhanced checks and from that time, would not be disclosed on an enhanced checks.
Most employers do criminal record checks but, they can only do a standard or enhanced DBS check if the role is legally eligible for them to do so.
