Hi,

Does the conviction disappear from a basic dbs automatically or is this a manual process undertaken by ACRO?
For example if someone's conviction was spent at 12 months, would the basic dbs show nothing at 12 months + 1 day?
Or would one be waiting for a government or police employee to manually remove the offence from the ACRO system?

thanks

It is nothing to do with ACRO. They just maintain the Police National Computer. The checks are done by the DBS (hence the name), and the rules are applied when the check is run. So, once a conviction becomes spent, it will not be shown on any future checks. No need to apply; it's done automatically. I wish it could be removed from the police system, but that doesn't happen, unfortunately. Sad
