If you find yourself at a loose end at this time of year and there ’ s nothing on TV … you might find some of these worth watching . These aren ’ t just random , these are shows that I ’ ve felt connected to in one way or another usually while doing a bit of soul - searching . The first few are the positives that can happen when people feel connected in a group , when there ’ s significant support and the opportunity for people to push themselves , build confidence , or reach targets they didn ’ t think were possible . I feel there is a growing need to battle isolation when new technology and changes in work / socially are turning us more unsociable . These shows also touch on possible factors about when things might have gone wrong , particularly when growing up , you might be able to relate ? I find it interesting to see how people deal with the hand they ’ ve been dealt and I feel these are very real examples of that , rather than anything too constructed or PR for a charity . Freddie ’ s Field of Dreams - Specifically about the storyline about Sean . He brings together people from different backgrounds and the positives that can happen when people stop judging each other https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/m00190pg/freddie-flintoffs-field-of-dreams( Freddie ’ s doc on his battle with bulimia is VERY good too , even if you know nothing about bulimia , you may still be able to relate to the symptoms if you ’ re battling any kind of addiction https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000n1xx/freddie-flintoff-living-with-bulimia) Idris Elba ’ s Boxing School - One of the lads in the group battles his own demons … Again bringing people together and opportunities and connections that brings https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/p0bv813d/idris-elbas-fight-schoolSAS Who Dares Wins - On 4oD - any of these series is great when you watch it for the stories behind the candidates rather than the tasks they have to do . When people say everyone has their own ____ to deal with , it really is so true . https://www.channel4.com/programmes/sas-who-dares-winsIf you have Netflix , I cannot recommend Ricky Gervais ’ Afterlife enough . You will laugh , cry , relate to some of the characters . It ’ s outstanding , there were a few moments that really hit home for me . Finally for now , The Traitors is also on iPlayer . Not only is this an excellent show with cliffhangers , it ’ s also interesting to see how the players have to hide who they are while acting as if nothing is wrong . How difficult it is to be judged (/ wrongly accused ) of being a traitor when they ’ re not actually a traitor . The strength you have to show when you are a traitor …….. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/p0db9b2t/the-traitorsHope this all makes sense . Having watched all these , it ' d be great to hear about any others which you ' d recommend .
