Hi all... Seeking advice from those very knowledgeable about car insurance.

Not your usual question, cant find a relevant answer elsewhere.

In Sept 2011 year someone in a stolen car wrote off a car of mine.

My then insurer (Elephant / Admiral) refused to pay out and cancelled policy, and cancelled all my no claims bonus (5 years) as well saying the policy was void from inception (back to 2006), as I had an undeclared IN10 (no insurance issued back in 2007).

After a bit of me arguing that this resulted in an 'unjust outcome' they allowed 5 years no claims, refunded all my premiums from 2006 onward and simply didn't pay out. I ended up getting the money from the insurer of the stolen car (which is what I had instructed Elephant to do originally, would've actually worked out cheaper for them....)

Last year upon renewal I told my new insurer Adrian flux, about all of this. . They seemed to suggest that there is nothing on the Claims underwriting exchange about a cancelled policy. They insured me through Aviva all ok. I notice my Aviva policy specifically says no on the question "have you ever had insurance cancelled... etc"

So... recently I sent off for a report of all my personal information to the Claims Underwriting Exchange (CUE - the database insurers use to swap information about you)

It records a non fault claim. It doesn't say anything about a cancelled policy.

My question - Insurance is due again - Do I need to tell my new insurers about a cancelled policy? Assuming I use insurers who don't use admiral as underwriters then I have no issues? or do insurers use other databases for this?

Id like a professional opinion, obviously I cant ask my new intended insurer as they will simply put the price up anyway, regardless.

How long are you supposed to declare cancelled policy's for - forever? I have a spent conviction arguably more serious than my IN10 and as a reformed person it seems unfair that although the law allows a second chance for criminal convictions insurers wont for persons who have had policies cancelled!

So, what do you think? Grateful for advice on what I ought to do, both morally and technically what is possible.

Regards.
