Hi, I'm with LV, as my conviction is older than 5 years they are not interested. Quite competitive.

Yes i think a lot of people are with LV from reading the forums, we went to get a quote from them and it asked about any conviction, if you tick yes it stops the quote and say they won't insure..

If a conviction is spent you do not have to answer Yes. If it is unspent and you answer yes, I'm not aware of any mainstream insurer who will provide Buildings and Contents cover. Several, including LV=, will provide car insurance if you only have unspent non-motoring convictions.

The good news is that there is a long list of brokers available on the Unlock website who will arrange insurance for you (ironically quite often underwritten by different arms of the same mainstream insurers who won't deal with you directly...

The only issue is cost - your unspent conviction adds an unhealthy amount to the premium.

There is also an online insurer who specialises in people with convictions and has been advertising/sponsoring an Unlock page (homeprotect.co.uk)

Home Protect is just one of the insurers on Unlock's list, which you can see and/or download here.

I see you have a good list it’s just as we try and move on from what we did wrong then we have to keep saying what we done to strangers, are there any who just as about criminal conviction in general not what you done when you done where you done it ? Mine was over 4 years sentence so never spent but happened over 10 years ago and nothing since not a single thing . I try and push it to the back of my mind but when things like insurance etc come up for renewal I have to think about it all again ... as Stats show people with criminal records are no more likely to have a insurance claim than someone without. I have had insurance for over 30 years and never once claimed but due to one blip in my life I now have to pay double what others pay ... Has anyone had a call around these to see which ones come out the best value ?

I can only recommend you do give LV a try, I am with them. They only ask if the conviction is less than 5 years old, if its over they are not interested. For my house and contents I pay just under £150 for buildings and contents, you can decide for yourself if this is competitive. My conviction wont be spent for quite a time.

Hi thats most peculiar Im sorry to hear that they asked. In my case Ive been with them for a few years so I can only conclude that they have changed their policy (for the worse).

I think you will be ok as renewal will be based on what you first filled in when you took policy as nothing has changed since that day, no new convictions and the old ones are still over 5 years old..
