This is something I need to get sorted. I keep putting it off. I have no issues with disclosure when asked in terms of jobs etc, but with insurance I get the scared feeling of I’m honest.

Hi
LV gave me motor insurance on disclosure; seems as not a financial offence they were OK.
Just ask the question "do you insure ex-offenders" before going into details about yourself.
Good luck

Hi,
I am currently with esure and they state anyone who receives a conviction should tell them. This is in their booklet.
I was under the impression that they only needed telling at renewal but this does not appear to be the case.
Am I better cancelling this policy and getting another one setup with a specialist insurer?
My current policy wasn' t due for renewal until August.

Well, you could tell them and see what they say. If they say they can't insure you, that's not a cancellation, it's just that they don't have a produce that suits your circumstances. That's what Unlock told me, anyway. Otherwise, have a look through Unlock's list of insurers and contact some to get an idea of what you'd have to pay with them.

I've looked at a few brokers and changing insurers will cost me 200 quid more for the year. I think I will play it safe, cancel existing policies and take out new ones with the brokers for a year.

Getting a conviction, however minimal, has opened my eyes on the vindictive nature of the british justice system...

Hi every one, hope your all well. Just an update. I have received my renewal invitation from LV with no reference to anything out of the ordinary. Because nothing has changed at my end I will just go ahead and renew.
It would appear that what they [ LV ] told me was correct that as I was with them before their policy change came into effect that no new conditions will be applied.
Although good news for me its regrettable they cannot offer this to everyone.

Hi

Well done, out of curiosity I wonder when the policy change happened as I joined them in may this year, did declare but was not only interested in "financial" offences.
Suppose fingers crossed for next May....

take care

Hi,

I went on the Unlock website and scrolled through the list of Home Insurers. I found Intelligent Insurance and proceeded to ask for a quote, disclosing what my unspent conviction was for etc.
Upon submitting my form, I was told I needed to ring the company which I did and was told that the Underwriters wanted more information. The info they were asking for was along these lines:

1. Can you explain in more detail why you committed these offences?
2. How long did you serve in prison? (I had already disclosed this on the application form).

At this point I now declined to answer any further questions since I felt it was nothing to do with them.

I was left upset that while they offer quotes for home insurance, that the Underwriters wanted more information and that the quote was liable to be changed once they made a decision.
I am still without Home Insurance and too scared to apply with any other company.

Can anyone suggest one that does not make me feel so wretched?

Hi

I was with SIS for about 5 years and only disclosed to the agent. I did find them more expensive - as they all are - and only moved as they do not cover campervans.

Worth a call as they were none critical

I inquired with them and was told they wouldn't offer cover. Best to get in first I find. "Hi before  we start may I ask if you are able to provide cover for people with unspent convictions?" If they say no or try to get more info from you first then just say " sorry to bother you thanks and bye" that way you've told them nothing. If they ask for a name I give them my first shortened name and no more, " if you are able to give me cover I'll be happy to give you all the details you need. If not ta ta.

Hi JASB, no problems,  nothing ventured ! and I didn't give any personal details, I have decided to wait and see what happens at renewal? To be honest I was more concerned why LV had taken this decision and if it was a foretaste of things to come. I guess I will never know?

I am very sorry you received such a response after I had recommended them.

Good luck in your
